The year is 2212, which has been sixteen years since the Resource Wars. Although an uneasy peace now exists between the three zones that divide the Earth, the War's aftermath has had significant impacts, particularly in Jacob's zone. The people in his world have traded their freedoms for safety and sustenance and are now ruled by the Corporation with an iron fist.

Jacob, a twelve-year-old boy, possesses intelligence and curiosity, which are frowned upon in his world. However, he is far more dangerous because he has stumbled upon a forbidden book - The Quran. Then, fate intervenes, and Jacob meets Majdi Mansoor, a Muslim boy.

This encounter sets off a chain of events that leads Jacob into the secretive world of the Mansoor family. A disaster occurs, and Jacob discovers the real reason behind the Mansoor's concealment.
